Dragons RFC are delighted to announce Sam Hobbs will take of the role of Forwards Coach at the club from the 2024/25 season.
Former front row Hobbs, who operated as Academy Head Coach and with the senior set-up this season, has been promoted by Head Coach Dai Flanagan as he continues to shape a new-look backroom team.
Highly-rated Hobbs – who played 42 times for the Men of Gwent between 2016 and 2018 - has impressed as Forwards Coach with Newport RFC and worked in the Wales Under-20s and Under-18s set-up.
Brecon-born Hobbs, 36, joins Defence Coach Filo Tiatia and Backs Coach Matt O’Brien in the coaching team ahead of the 2024/25 BKT United Rugby Championship and EPCR Challenge Cup season.
Flanagan said: “I’m delighted Sam is named as our new Forwards Coach and look forward to seeing him continue his good work with our senior squad.
“Sam has always impressed in our Academy, been an invaluable part of the senior set-up this season and earned his stripes with his hard work at Newport RFC and in the Wales age grade set-ups.
“He has a great relationship with our forwards and, thanks to his extensive work in the Dragons Academy over the last few years, is the perfect person to also guide the next generation as they come through and make a mark in our senior squad.
“Sam will be determined to continue to put his mark on the forward pack at Dragons and we’re all excited to see how he continues to develop and excel in that role.
Sam Hobbs said: “I’m very excited to take on the senior role in the Dragons RFC and look forward to building on the positive work of recent seasons.
“We have an exciting squad being built here and several talented young forwards coming through who will become key figures for us.
“I’m looking forward to us working hard ahead of next season to continue to make strides and develop as a pack of forwards.”
