Waino at the double at club awards

03/06/2024

Back row Aaron Wainwright was rewarded for a stunning season with the Men of Gwent by taking home the top two honours at the club’s Awards Night at Rodney Parade, sponsored by Molson Coors.

Wainwright claimed over half the public vote to claim the top honour on the evening – the Tony Brown Player of the Year. It is the second time Wainwright has claimed the award, previously winning it in 2018/19. He follows Joe Bearman (2007/08 & 2008/09) as a two-time winner of the top award.

The 26-year-old Wales international was also recognised by his peers as he was named the Ed Jackson Players’ Player of the Season.

The other big winner on the night – where staff and players came together to reflect on the last 12 months - was Joe Westwood, who was named the Young Player of the Season.

The Doom Bar Try of the Season – again voted for by supporters - was claimed by Bradley Roberts for his impressive league score against Ospreys at Rodney Parade in November.

Wales Under-20s full back Huw Anderson was named Academy Player of the Season and Wales international Molly Reardon the Women’s Player of the Season.

The Phil James Community Award was won by Morgan Steed for his work and support as part of the Dragons Community team. His award was collected on the evening by Karen Burgess.

The Clubman of the Year award went to Rodney Parade employee David Watts, who has spearheaded the club’s award shortlisted Eco Dragons initiative.

Club milestones and achievements were also recognised on the night while departing players were presented with framed jerseys as thanks for their efforts and impact at Dragons RFC.
