Aneurin Owen is targeting a strong end to the season for Dragons – insisting the squad must pull together and perform in the run-in.
Owen, who has made ten appearances for Dai Flanagan’s men this campaign, will hope to be in the thick of the action as rugby returns to Newport this month.
The Men of Gwent face South African powerhouses the Vodacom Bulls at Rodney Parade on Saturday, March 23 before welcoming Zebre Parma six days later on Friday, March 29.
Dragons have won three of their last four on home soil and midfield man Owen wants more scalps as the BKT United Rugby Championship season builds to a big finish.
“We don't want to finish bottom of the table and need to pick up results by putting performances in,” said the 23-year-old.
“This season we have only beaten Welsh regions, other than Oyonnax in Europe, so it would be nice to get some other scalps.
“We have let ourselves down as a squad with a couple of games, but we have the last block to give a good account of ourselves and get results.
“We are still learning and want to get to a point when we are winning regularly and being competitive in the URC.
“This league has a high standard and it’s up to us to catch up and string some results together.”
Owen himself has put the misery of injuries behind him this season and believes he is benefitting from a run of games as he seeks his best form.
“You don't realise how much you have missed and how long it will take to get back to feeling good about how you are playing and fitness,” he said.
“Having a run of games and my body feeling good makes a massive difference. I feel I am in a good place.
“I see my ball-playing as a strength, but I’ve been trying to work on defence and my collisions,” he added.
“As a 12 you need to be physically able to compete and I have also worked on my attacking footwork and carrying.”
