DHL Stormers Director of Rugby John Dobson has revealed his team are set to bring all their Springbok stars and go fully loaded for the upcoming BKT United Rugby Championship clash with Dragons RFC.
Stormers returned to form to beat a youthful Leinster 42-12 in Cape Town during Round 15 last weekend – a week after a frustrating loss to Ospreys on home soil.
The result moved Stormers up to fifth in the congested URC table but only have six more points than the Lions who are in 11th.
It is now crunch time for the Stormers who travel to the Dragons and then Connacht before hosting the dangerous Lions in the final round of the regular season.
And with every point crucial, Dobson admits it is now a “Must-win tour” for his side as they prepare to make the trip to Newport next Friday evening (May 10).
“The previous tour was at the start of the season,” said Dobson. “We knew we would come home and have to catch up. The loss to Ospreys at home knocked us properly.
“We are now under a massive points situation. The devastation of that result against Ospreys was that we could have finished that weekend two points behind the Bulls, looking for a home playoff. That’s pretty much unrecoverable.
“Now, it’s a must-win tour. We’ve never had that sort of feeling before, our level of desperation. We are taking our Springboks. This will be a different mindset from the first tour. It’s full metal jacket to try win every game.
“We have to be better in those conditions,” Dobson added. “The big thing is we’ve made improvements this season around contestables. We won the contestable game well tonight, I was pleased with that.”
