Centre Wilson signs for Dragons

02/05/2024

Welcome a new Man of Gwent! Dragons RFC can today officially announce the major signing of exciting young centre Harry Wilson.

The 23-year-old - who can also operate at wing or full back - makes the move to Rodney Parade this summer from NSW Waratahs.

The strong and powerful centre – who is 6ft 3in tall and weighs 15st 2lbs – will link up with his new team-mates during the close season after completing his commitments in Super Rugby and with the Waratahs.

Wilson becomes our second confirmed new recruit this week ahead of the new 2024/25 BKT United Rugby Championship season, following the addition of Tongan back row Solomone Funaki.

Head Coach Dai Flanagan said: “We’re really excited to bring Harry to Wales and to see the impact he can have in our environment.

“He is a great athlete and talented young centre, who can also operate in the wide channels. The fact he can play multiple positions will be a real asset to us.

“Harry arrives with Super Rugby experience and is a player with a big future. We’re looking forward to seeing him represent the Dragons.”

Wilson made his Super Rugby debut in March 2023 against the Chiefs and made a further seven appearances in his first senior season.

The Sydney-born midfielder has again been part of the Waratahs squad this season, scoring his first try in the victory over the Crusaders in March.

The son of former Wallabies captain and World Cup winner David Wilson, Harry progressed through the ranks at St Augustine’s College and Australia Under-20s before joining the Waratahs Academy in 2019.

He previously played club rugby for Eastwood, helping them to the semi-finals of the Shute Shield in 2022.

“I’m excited at the prospect of becoming a Dragon and linking up with my new team-mates this summer,” said Wilson.

“I’ve spoken to Dai Flanagan about the club’s vision and targets going forward and look forward to being a big part of a new look squad and testing myself in a new competition. It’s a big opportunity for me to move to Wales and a new challenge that I plan to fully embrace.

“Finally, thank you to my team-mates, the coaches, and fans at the Waratahs for their support over the last few seasons. I’ll be giving absolutely everything for a strong end to this Super Rugby season.”

Welcome to Harry from us all at Dragons RFC.
