Thomas & Minto sign new contracts

04/04/2025

Dragons RFC are pleased to announce Wales Under-20 internationals Evan Minto and Nick Thomas have both signed new Senior Academy contracts with the club.

The pair both made senior debuts for the Men of Gwent this season, appearing in the EPCR Challenge Cup victory at Newcastle Falcons in December.

Both players have also excelled on the international stage for Wales Under-20s with Minto starting all five games in the recent Under-20s Six Nations and Thomas facing France before injury cut his tournament short.

Lewis Roberts, Dragons Academy Manager, said: “It’s been fantastic to see both Evan and Nick develop over the last few seasons with us.

“Both have performed well for the Under-20s and grasped the opportunity to make senior appearances for Dragons over the last 12 months.

“We now look forward to their continued development in our system as they strive to become successful Dragons.”

Back-row Minto, 19, began his rugby journey at Welsh Youth Cup finalists Pontypool United before becoming part of the club’s age-grade set-up.

He recently scored a crucial try for Hartpury Rugby to secure their place in the BUCS Super Rugby Milk Championship Finals at Rodney Parade.

Minto said: “I was honoured to have the opportunity to make my debut for the club. I’ve been watching the Dragons play for years and to have the chance to pull that jersey on was a huge moment in my life.

“I have stayed with the club as I feel the amount I’m learning off the players and coaches is huge, and there is nowhere else I would rather be.

“There is lots of experience in the squad now so being able to stay with them and learn as much as possible is massive for me.”

Second row Thomas, 19, launched his career at St Peter’s RFC before representing Newport RFC in Super Rygbi Cymru.

Thomas said: “Making my senior debut this season was something special and wasn’t expected - it was a dream come true.

“Re-signing for Dragons RFC was an easy decision for me, the club has played a huge role in my development, and I feel it's the best place for me to continue growing as a player.

“The environment, coaching staff, and opportunities to compete at a high level make it the ideal place to push myself.

“I’m eager to build on my progress, put in strong performances, and contribute to team success.”

Head Coach Filo Tiatia welcomed the new contracts adding: “It is always special to see homegrown players come through our system and make senior debuts.

“Both Evan and Nick earned opportunities through their hard work and dedication. We now look forward to them continuing to develop in our pathway.”
