Cole try as Wales Under-19s defeated

19/12/2025

Dragons RFC wing Rhys Cole scored a first half try but Wales Under-19 learned defensive lessons the hard way with a clinical England Under-19 side scoring seven tries in a 49-17 victory at Ystrad Mynach.

The opening quarter was evenly contested with the visitors holding a slender 7-5 lead with England scrum half Asa Stewart-Harris and Wales winger Rhys Cole trading tries.

Fly half Carwyn Leggat-Jones and scrum half Luca Woodyatt tried to get Wales on the front foot with some probing kicks but England were able to deal with the danger and attack with venom.

Victor Worsnip, Charlie Lawson and Tate Williams scored further tries with fly half Oscar Talbot adding the extras with the boot to give England a comfortable 28-5 lead at the break.

Wales came out of the sheds with a spring in their step and eventually worked Woodyatt over in the corner. Wales continued to attack but a double strike within three minutes put the game beyond Richard Whiffin’s side.

Krystoff Wood and Matthew Bowler pounced to stretch England’s lead before Dylan Scott, who impressed on the wing, scored for Wales but a seventh try in the dying moments sealed the deal for Mark Mapletoft’s side.
