Waino to boost Euro bid at home

11/12/2025

Wales international Aaron Wainwright is set to return for Dragons RFC as the club bid to launch the EPCR Challenge Cup on home soil against Lyon Olympique Universitaire on Sunday (kick-off 3.15pm).

The Men of Gwent are back on home soil after a disappointing loss to USA Perpignan in France in Round One.

Head Coach Filo Tiatia wants his team to return to the form that has seen them produce in Newport after narrowly missing out on victories over Hollywoodbets Sharks and Ospreys.

And the team is set to be boosted by the return of the talismanic Wainwright after his performances with Wales in the Autumn.

"We are excited to have 'Waino' back in,” said Tiatia.

“He’s been awesome this week and he's a good strong Gwent man who is important to the group, and important to the nation.”

Tiatia admits Dragons have held an ‘honest review’ after the display at Stade Aime Giral last weekend and he expects a response.

“The result wasn’t great - and our performance wasn’t great,” said Tiatia.

“As a group we know it was unacceptable around some of the things we said we were going to do, but didn’t do.

“It’s an exciting opportunity this weekend to move forward. We’ve taken some good learnings and know we just can’t have a day off when we perform in this jersey.

“We go up against at Lyon at our home pitch with an opportunity to make some wrongs right."
