Dragons announce 24/25 player departures

22/05/2025

Dragons RFC can confirm 14 players will leave the club following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

Four club centurions finish their playing days with the Men of Gwent after outstanding contributions in club colours.

Wing Ashton Hewitt – second in the club’s all-time try scoring charts with 37 tries – departs after 131 games and 11 seasons at Dragons RFC.

Second row Joe Davies, who has made 137 appearances over 11 seasons, and back row forward Taine Basham, who has made 109 appearances over eight seasons, also leave Rodney Parade.

They are joined by ex-Wales and British & Irish Lion Dan Lydiate (107 appearances) who confirmed his retirement from playing professional rugby earlier this year.

Also heading for pastures new, full back Jordan Williams (79 appearances), fly half Will Reed (50 appearances), scrum half Dane Blacker (37 appearances) and Lloyd Evans (13 appearances).

Prop Josh Reynolds (46 appearances) departs after seven seasons in the senior set-up and forward George Nott (41 appearances) leaves after three seasons at Rodney Parade.

Back row George Young (12 appearances), prop Dmitri Arhip (nine appearances), prop Paula Latu (10 appearances) and Josh Thomas (one appearance) also leave with our best wishes.

This group join Lloyd Fairbrother, Ollie Griffiths, and Leon Brown, who left Dragons RFC earlier this season when they retired from professional rugby, while Steff Hughes and Aki Seiuli departed in season.

The club would also like to thank Scott Williams, Nathan Evans, and Lloyd Lewis for their endeavours with us throughout this season.

Finally, wing Walker Price and hooker Tomoya Nieuwendijk-Adachi leave the Dragons Academy with our best wishes for the future.

Head Coach Filo Tiatia said: “I’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of everyone at Dragons RFC to thank those leaving for the commitment, dedication, and professionalism they have shown throughout their time at Rodney Parade.

“Players such as Taine, Ashton, Joe, and Dan have played over a hundred games for the club and leave a lasting impression with their impact and performances.

“Every single player had a role to play, and we wish them all every success moving forward. We look forward to welcoming them and their families back to Rodney Parade in the future.”
