Dragons RFC are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual to join the Dragons RFC Commercial Team, playing a key role in driving the delivery of the Club’s commercial growth strategy

Job Title: Sales Executive

Salary: Competitive salary, plus commission on new business sales (details to be discussed).

Location: Rodney Parade, Newport, and other venues as required.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week, plus match days and events.

Responsible to: Head of Commercial

Contractual Status: Permanent, full-time, subject to a successful probationary period.

Role Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Dragons RFC Commercial Team, playing a key role in driving the delivery of the Club’s commercial growth strategy. Working closely with the Head of Commercial, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and securing new revenue opportunities across sponsorship and advertising. This role will focus on identifying and developing relationships with new businesses, as well as managing relationships with existing clients, to achieve sales targets and contribute to the commercial growth of the club.

Key Relationships:

  • All Dragons RFC staff
  • Sponsors, partners, clients (existing and potential)
  • Regional and local business networks

Key Responsibilities, Tasks, and Activities:

  • Actively identify and target new business opportunities within the region to achieve sales targets for sponsorship, advertising, and hospitality inventory/packages.
  • Develop and deliver compelling sales presentations and proposals tailored to potential clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and prospective clients.
  • Manage and nurture relationships with a portfolio of existing commercial accounts to ensure retention and identify opportunities for upselling.
  • Ensure a high-quality match day experience for corporate clients.
  • Provide regular updates on sales activity, including forecasts and pipelines, to the Head of Commercial.
  • Attend networking events and functions to generate leads and build relationships.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to support commercial activities and achieve targets.
  • Ensure safe working practices and compliance with company policies.

Person Specification:

Required Experience & Attributes:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar sales-focused role, ideally within sport or a related industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • A strong commercial mindset with the drive to achieve and exceed revenue targets.
  • Highly organised and confident in managing multiple priorities with tight deadlines. 
  • Professional, well-spoken, and persuasive, with a natural flair for relationship building.
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Good presentation skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency and competency with CRM Systems.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to commercial contracts. 
  • Full UK driving licence.

Other: An understanding of individual responsibility in complying with the Health and Safety policies and arrangements.
