Co-captain Ben Carter hailed the ‘spectacular’ Dragons fans who made the trip to France for the Euro classic with Stade Francais Paris – insisting it made it all the more special sharing the win with them.
Hundreds of fans backing the Men of Gwent descended on Stade Jean Bouin and made their voices heard throughout as Dragons edged a last 16 stunner 36-31 in memorable scenes.
“I am just really pleased and amazed at the amount of support that came out. It’s great to share that good result with them,” he said.
“The fans being here just made it so special. We are so lucky to have such loyal fans - we always say we love playing in front of them at Rodney Parade and also away from home.
“It was just spectacular so thank you everyone who came to support us.”
Reflecting on an epic encounter on French soil, Carter added: “I was really proud of the way the boys stuck in.
“The game was going back and forth in terms of the scoreboard. I’m just really pleased with the efforts - we will enjoy it and look forward to next week.
“We spoke about starting well and knew it was going to be a big performance – one of our best of the season.
“We had a good week building into it and I thought that showed on the pitch.
“The fight we showed to come back from that purple patch they had in the middle of the game was brilliant. A lot of aspects of our game were strong today.
“It was an amazing finish to the game,” he added.
“I don’t think you could credit one person with that score. It touched the majority of hands on the field.
“When we got up there it really felt like we were going to score. It just shows the confidence we have built in this group.”
