Ford Debut and Lloyd Fifty In Cup Action

06/02/2026

Ebbw Vale, Newport and Pontypool return to Super Rygbi Cymru Cup action on Saturday while there are plenty of Dragons talents on show.

Six Dragons are on show as Pontypool host Carmarthen Quins, five in Newport’s trip to face Cardiff at the Arms Park, while there is a Steelmen debut for Will Ford as Ebbw Vale host Aberavon.

Ford, whose older brother Harri is on the bench for Pontypool, joined the Steelmen in late January having impressed at Bargoed RFC in his first season of senior rugby.

After their match against Swansea was postponed, Ebbw will get their 2026 Cup campaign underway having reached the final last year, ultimately losing out to Llandovery.

Ford isn’t the only debutant in Ebbw’s ranks, with Harry Arundel and Morgan Rees set for debuts from the bench while former Dragon Jon Evans returns to the 23 on the bench.

The game will be at Merthyr RFC's the Wern pitch with a 1:30pm kick off.

Elsewhere, Morgan Lloyd is set to make his 50th Pontypool appearance off the bench against Carmarthen Quins.

The scrumhalf is joined by Ryan Jones and Harri Ford amongst the replacements, while there are starting spots for Sam Scarfe at hooker, Logan Franklin at nine and Huw Anderson at fullback.

Pooler will be hoping to continue their recent upturn in form to celebrate flanker Callum Davies’ 100th appearance and know maximum points could see them move top of Pool A if Newport are unable to gain a bonus point win against Cardiff.

Speaking of the Black and Ambers, they travel to face Cardiff at the Arms Park with Joe Westwood, Noah Morgan and Jac Lloyd all included in the starting XV.

On the bench are Wales U20s squad member Carter Pritchard along with former 20s captain Harri Ackerman.

Newport currently sit atop Pool A after their away win at Quins and home 21-all draw against Pontypool.
