Cup Final Beckons For Black and Ambers

06/03/2026

The first title for the Super Rygbi season is up for grabs this weekend and as with last season there is a Gwent side in the final.

Newport will take on reigning champions Llandovery in the cup final at the Cardiff Arms Park following two pulsating semi-finals.

The Drovers squeezed past Pontypool with the final kick of the game while Newport needed extra time to beat last years’ finalists Ebbw Vale in a high scoring Gwent derby at Rodney Parade.

Dragons players Harri Ackerman and Jac Lloyd both scored tries in extra time to help their side to a 48-34 victory and they both start once more at 13 and outside half respectively.

Elsewhere, Dragons Academy player Tiehi Chatham is among the replacements ready to make an impact.

In total there are three changes to the starting XV from last weekend with Callum Bradbury at lock and Kyle Tayler on the flank, while former Dragon Oli Andrew returns to the side in place of the injured Fin Baker.

Meanwhile, Pontypool are back in league action, hoping to take their impressive cup form to Bridgend.

Eight Dragons are in action for Pooler with Dylan Kelleher-Griffiths and Sam Scarfe in the front row, while Ryan Jones is at seven. Logan Franklin starts at nine, while Ewan Rosser is at fullback.

On the bench are prop Nathan Davies, lock Daniel Bassett and fly-half Harri Ford.

The only change to the starting XV against Llandovery last weekend sees Marcus Jones come in on the wing, with Rosser switching to fullback.

A win could see Pontypool leapfrog the Ravens and rise as high as eighth if other results go their way, while they also have a game in hand on both Bridgend and Aberavon.
