Dragons TV: STEM magic in action

20/03/2026

As part of British Science Week, Dragons RFC were delighted to recently host two STEM festivals that highlighted the exciting opportunities and experiences that science, technology, engineering and mathematics can offer young people.

Over two days we welcomed 550 pupils from Years 3–6 across nine of our local primary schools. Throughout the event, Rodney Parade was full of energy as students took part in a wide range of interactive activities designed to spark curiosity and encourage hands-on learning.

Our STEM provision, in partnership with Vishay Newport Limited, is making a huge impact across our schools in the region and the festival was the latest part of this award-winning programme.

Dragons Education & STEM Officer, Angharad Kibble, said: “Watching so many young people explore, ask questions and immerse themselves in STEM was fantastic to see, and a powerful reminder of the importance of creating opportunities like this.

“Events like these play an important role in challenging outdated stereotypes about STEM careers. The world of STEM is far more diverse and accessible than the traditional image of a lab coat, wild hair and an older male scientist working alone in a laboratory. STEM is creative, collaborative and full of opportunities for people from all backgrounds.

“By giving youngsters the chance to experience STEM in action, we hope to inspire them to see the many pathways that could be open to them in the future.”

The two-day festival would not have been possible without the incredible team of activity providers, including:

  • Vishay Newport Limited
  • Dragons RFC Community Team
  • Swansea University / Prifysgol Abertawe / Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials (CISM)
  • Bute Energy / Catrin Leader
  • Oriel Science
  • Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water Education Team
  • Esports Wales
  • Royal Air Force (RAF) Youth & STEM Team
  • KLA
  • University of South Wales
  • CSconnected Sparking STEM Futures (USW)
  • National Digital Exploitation Centre & ResilientWorks
  • Army Engagement Group (British Army) Wales
  • Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) /Meurig Lennon-Lloyd

We’re already excited to see what next year’s event will bring and to continue inspiring the next generation through STEM. Thank you again to all the schools, partners, and activity providers who helped make the last two days a success.
