Over 70 club representatives from the Gwent region turned out last night for a coaching workshop led by Newport Gwent Dragons attacking coach Lyn Jones at Blackwood RFC.
Jones was impressed by both the quality and quantity of coaches who attended the indoor workshop and Q & A session entitled “Team Selection ‘Getting it Right’ & Half Time Team-talks,”
“There is clearly a great level of commitment to grass roots rugby in the region and it is through the clubs that the rugby stars of tomorrow are developed, he said. “It was a great pleasure to have been involved and to share some of the lessons I have learned through my years as a rugby coach.”
Worthingtons representative Paul Doubler, who closed the evening, was delighted with the success of the event.
“Worthington’s are proud sponsors and supporters of the Newport Gwent Dragons. We were delighted to have been able to help towards the success of a very enjoyable and worthwhile session. “The number of coaches who attended is testament to the importance of rugby to the region. Lyn Jones gave a great insight into some of the difficulties of coaching and how to overcome these, whilst Shaun Connor and Richard Fussell were able to share their experiences from the perspective of professional players. This is what our partnership with the Dragons is about, supporting the region in supporting their clubs”
There will be further coaching workshops at Tredegar RFC on 11 March and Caerphilly RFC on 6 May. Further details regarding themes for these workshops will be made available on the Newport Gwent Dragons website www.newportgwentdragons.com
