The match featuring teams from Year 9 takes place at the Centre for Sporting Excellence, Ystrad Mynach (CF82 7EP) and kicks off at 2:00pm. Entry is free and all are welcome.
Phil James had a great love of sport and education and joined the Dragons Community Team in 2002 as our Education Officer. Throughout his 14 years at Rodney Parade, he inspired thousands of youngsters until he sadly passed away on 1st January 2016 after a battle with cancer.
Phil recognised that not everyone can or would want to play rugby at an elite level but that all can have a part to play in sport. Phil also acknowledged the sterling work of the Velindre staff and hence, this annual match will be to raise valuable funds for Velindre and to keep Phil’s legacy well and truly alive.
Phil’s children went to Caerleon School and through the Dragons Community association with Tony Clarke, St Albans RC School has been selected to compete for the Phil James Memorial Cup.
Both Caerleon and St Albans schools have both raised funds for Velindre in the lead up to the fixture within the school environment. On Wednesday a raffle will be held with supporters also encouraged to donate to Velindre through school volunteers on the gate.
