Tough Euro Draw for Dragons

European giants Clermont Auvergne and Northampton Saints will be group stage opposition for the Dragons in this season's Challenge Cup.

Martyn Bicknell | 20/06/2018

Timisoara Saracens have also been drawn in Pool One for next year's tournament, meaning a return to Romania for the Dragons, four years after they did the double against Romanian side Bucuresti Wolves.

New Dragons signing Aaron Jarvis will look forward to the prospect of returning to take on his old club mates at Clermont, who have been beaten Champions Cup finalists three times in the last six years and who won the Top 14 in 2017.

Whilst the clash with Northampton Saints could mean a reunion with scrum-half Charlie Davies, who left the Dragons at the end of last season, and Wales fly-half Dan Biggar.

"It’s a tough draw for us, but for supporters, players, or as a coach taking on the likes of Northampton Saints and Clermont it's exactly what you want," said Bernard Jackman.

"I'm sure the supporters will all be talking about it and getting excited, and the playing group will be no different.

"We want to pit ourselves against the best and that's definitely the case in this group.

"We're excited about this pool and are already looking forward to testing ourselves in a group which with former European champions Northampton Saints, and three-times Heineken Champions Cup losing-finalists Clermont, is probably as tough as it is possible to get.”
