Evans has made 215 appearances for Dragons since making his regional debut in 2006 – but in recent European Challenge Cup games has switched to the second row.
The 31-year-old claimed the most lineouts of any player in the opening European win over Timisoara Saracens and Jackman believes the move could be a big benefit to both player and region.
“He wants it to be a long-term move,” said Jackman. “We feel, for this career longevity, it is certainly something worth looking at.
“Lewis is a really good rugby player, is a big part of the Dragons and has a great legacy here.
“The way the back row is going, it is all about athleticism, and we have to look at what we have coming up behind with the likes of Harrison Keddie and Taine Basham.
“We know what Lewis can do in the back row and we know, with Cory Hill being away quite a bit, we don’t have anyone as good as him as a lineout caller. We’re definitely looking at it.
“Lewis is a smart rugby player, his work-rate is really high and he gets a back rowers tackler count,” added Jackman. “He is deceptively strong. Usual props are not happy with light second rows, but they all like having Lewis behind them.
“It is something we are looking at and we need to give him four or five games before we can make a definite call on it. But we definitely feel he can add something to it.”
