In 2016 the Dragons created Wales’ first homeless rugby team, for anyone from the region who is either currently homeless or has been at some point in their lives.
The project is a fantastic opportunity for the players involved to enjoy the sport and gain some focus as well as having some amazing experiences along the way.
A number of players recently joined forces with other teams to create a ‘Lions’ team to play in the English capital tournament, that raisesmoney for Homeless Rugby CIC, a charity that tackles homelessness through sport.
Head Coach Callum House said: “We selected two Dragons, two from the Puffins Homeless Select and two from the Scottish Select to represent the Lions. They all conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism and did themselves and their teams proud on the London stage.
“The team played a total of six fixtures resulting in three wins, one draw and one defeat. That meant the team qualified for the Bowl semi- final, but sadly they missed out by losing 1-0.
“However, the silver lining was that in the last two matches they only conceded two tries from very strong opposition. Well done to all involved.”
