Morgan targets positive end to campaign

18/02/2019

Centre Tyler Morgan has targeted a big finish to the season with Dragons – insisting if the team can go on a roll if they can pick up the winning habit.

Dragons produced another battling display in Scotland and led Edinburgh at the break before a late surge from the hosts saw then wrap up a 34-17 Guinness PRO14 victory.

Morgan, who grabbed a brace of first half tries at BT Murrayfield, admits it was another frustrating night for the Dragons as they more than matched Edinburgh for over an hour.

However, the centre believes there is much to aim for in the closing months of the season as Dragons look to end a long run without an away league win.

“I think we have proved for a long time that we can stand up there against the best of them, it is just getting that habit of winning,” he said.

“Wales have that habit at the moment and unfortunately we have the losing one. It is easy to change, it only takes one or two games and you are rolling.

“It was a frustrating game,” he added.  “It was a good performance for the first 60 minutes and then frustrating for the last 20 minutes.

“It’s a theme of away games and obviously we’re trying to change that as quickly as we can. We have another chance to do it next week (at Benetton) and we know what we have got to do. We’ve got to swing momentum the other way and get it back to us.”

Morgan produced an impressing showing in the Scottish capital, with an eye-catching display in both defence and attack rewarded with two tries.

However, the centre insisted it was team progress and not personal plaudits that remained his only focus.

“It was nice to get two tries in the bag, one in attack and a nice defensive one, and it was a decent performance for me. But it’s all about the team,” he said. “I’m happy with my own performance, but still down about the loss.

“That away win is desperate for us. Get that and it will be such a boost and the wins will start coming,” he stressed.

“We’ve got to have another positive week (of training), finish the season strong and we have a big few games coming up.

“We need that away win. That would be a big scalp for us and a massive boost that we can kick on from. We’re all working in the same direction.”
