Connor Edwards has been recalled from a loan spell with English Championship outfit Jersey Reds after fellow centre Tom Griffiths suffered a knee injury in training.
Edwards, 22, linked up with the Reds on an initial one-month deal in January and featured in league games with Bedford Blues and Ealing Trailfinders.
However, the former Dragons Academy ace has now returned to Ystrad Mynach to resume training with the region ahead of the trip to Glasgow Warriors following a serious knee suffered by team-mate Griffiths.
“Connor has come back in from Jersey after a few games with them,” revealed Back Coach Barry Maddocks.
“He has done really well with them so he will now come back into the selection mix for us ahead of the Glasgow game this weekend.
"We kept in touch with Connor during his time at Jersey, to review his games and the big benefit has been that he has been playing week to week," added Maddocks.
"In positions like nine, ten and inside centre, you need to be playing reguarly. You need to manage and run games.
"Connor understands that we are trying to develop his game as a secondary ball player. We know his physical traits: his strength, his ball carrying and his defence.
"We now want to develop him so he is making decisons within moments of the game. That is the key bit for him."
Griffiths will undergo surgery tomorrow (Wednesday) on his knee injury and Maddocks admitted it was a cruel blow for the young centre.
“Tom picked up an injury in a training session we had with Cardiff Blues and he has been really unfortunate,” said Maddocks.
“It is a physical sport and we have to replicate that in some of our training sessions. However, it is bad luck for Tom and he will be out now with his operation to come.
“We don’t know the full extent of the injury yet and won’t until after the operation. We wish him well with his recovery.”
