Dragons will play in shirts embellished with poppies and that feature the iconic Memorial Gates at Rodney Parade when they host Edinburgh Rugby later this month as we remember the fallen.
Dean Ryan’s men will wear the kit in the United Rugby Championship fixture on home soil to commemorate those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.
Dragons and Official Kit Partners VX3 are also pleased to announce that the limited-edition adult jerseys will be available for supporters to buy.
Every sale will generate a £10 donation to the Royal British Legion.
First team stars Leon Brown, Ashton Hewitt and Ollie Griffiths were recently joined at Rodney Parade by members of the Risca branch of the Royal British Legion and 104th Regiment Royal Artillery.
Every jersey bears the image of the Memorial Gates at Rodney Parade, that were built in 1923 to pay tribute to the members of Newport Athletic Club who died during the First World War.
Eighty-six names feature on the bronze plaques on the gates and these names are part of the jersey.
Mark Jones, Managing Director at Dragons, said: “As always, we wanted to show our respects to all those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
“This year we will play in a special limited-edition jersey and will be aiming to raise as much as possible for the Royal British Legion. Our thanks go to VX3 for their support.
“The Memorial Gates have always been an iconic feature of Rodney Parade, a permanent reminder of the sacrifice of those who gave their lives in the First World War, so it is fantastic to see them feature so prominently in the design,” he added.
“We will proudly wear the kit for our home fixture against Edinburgh on Saturday, November 27, in honour of those whose contribution will never be forgotten.”
