Head Coach Dai Flanagan has revealed young centre Aneurin Owen is ‘flying’ in training and could yet feature in Friday’s BKT United Rugby Championship trip to Ulster (kick-off 7.35pm).
Owen, 22, has been out of action since suffering a knee injury against the Stormers in South Africa in early December.
Flanagan has confirmed that centre Steff Hughes – who signed a new deal this week – will miss the game at the Kingspan Stadium after suffering a head knock against Glasgow.
He joins Jack Dixon (foot) and Sio Tomkinson (suspension) on the sidelines.
But young midfielder Owen – uncapped by Wales but called into the squad in the summer of 2021 – could now return and add to his three appearance this season.
“We’ve got one more centre who is touch and go, so hopefully we will get him involved in the 23,” said Flanagan.
“Aneurin is flying and has trained with us for the last few weeks. He has done all his contact training progressions and hopefully he can make the 23 this weekend.
“From speaking to him, he feels like a rugby player again after missing all of last summer because of an ankle injury then he had a hamstring problem and then the severe injury. It's nice to see him back out there,” he added.
Meanwhile, Matthew Screech could return from suspension in Belfast while Angus O’Brien is available after missing the Glasgow game for the birth of his son.
