Dai Flanagan has vowed to continue to manage Will Reed’s development at Dragons – and believes the emergence of Sam Costelow at Scarlets shows the way forward.
Young playmaker Reed has continued his exciting growth this season with the Dragons Academy graduate making 10 appearances - and starting seven - at fly half.
The 21-year-old - who now has 77 points for the Men of Gwent – is highly rated and Flanagan has no doubt of his future impact at Rodney Parade.
But, ahead of Judgement Day, the Head Coach plans to continue to manage his involvement for maximum return, in the same way Costelow has been in West Wales.
“I am sure Will can become the first choice ten here. He is proving that now with some of his performances,” said Flanagan.
“What we need to make sure with Will is we don’t rush that progression.
“I worked with Sam (Costelow) at the Scarlets for three years. Year one he didn’t play too much, year two he was drip fed. You look at him now and he is ripping up trees.
“That process was done superbly well for Sam, and we need to make sure we give Will that same time.
“Too many bad experiences for a young ten don’t help. That is one thing I do know.”
