Head Coach Dai Flanagan has called on his Dragons to be brave and play with freedom when they face Glasgow Warriors in the last 16 of the EPCR Challenge Cup on Saturday (kick-off 5.30pm).
The Men of Gwent head north and to Scotstoun Stadium in Scotland the big knockout fixture with a quarter-final against Emirates Lions or Racing 92 up for grabs.
The odds will be stacked against Dragons with Glasgow having won 11 and drawn one of their last 13 games since early December - their only defeat a rearranged URC game against the Lions in South Africa in the middle of the Six Nations.
They won 42-28 at Rodney Parade in January and enjoyed a 38-6 win at Munster last weekend, having secured a bonus point by half-time.
However, Flanagan insists his team must go and look to express themselves if they are to secure a cup upset.
He said: “It’s exciting. Where we are now, in this transition phase and getting to the end of the season, we want to play the best teams possible.
“We’ve got three of them coming up - hopefully we can get even more.
“It’s 15 on 15 this weekend and the question I keep asking is ‘why not?’ Why can’t we do stuff that we haven’t done so far this season, but I see every day?
“Why can’t we control a game like we haven’t so far this season? Why can’t we get across the line?
“A lot of things will have to go well on the day for us, but it is a game we are super excited for.
“Let’s go and express ourselves,” he stressed. “One thing we have done in derby games this year, that has disappointed me, is we have gone into our shells a little bit.
“You can see the over emotion, the edginess. Let’s be free. Let’s be brave and let’s take some chances.”
