Head Coach Dai Flanagan praised the way his young Dragons stood up to the challenge of champions Munster – but called on his squad to play with greater accuracy.
Ryan Woodman and Aki Seiuli grabbed the tries at Musgrave Park as Dragons – without 20 players due to international call-ups and injury – battled away with the BKT United Rugby Championship title holders.
“It’s tough initially to find positives in it,” said Flanagan. “I thought our maul was good and for some of the youngsters, Luke Yendle and Ryan Woodman, it was a big step forward in their development.
“But I am just disappointed in our accuracy, if I am being honest. The effort is always through the roof, but we need to be more accurate under pressure than we are.
“We can learn lessons from this, but we have got to be much better.
“I thought Luke Yendle and Ryan Woodman really stood up in the pack.
“We’ve got to put speed in the game against teams in this league and we‘ve got some tough games coming up.
“We’ve got to draw a line in the sand, it’s been a tough three weeks, but we’ve got to focus on the next one.
“It doesn’t get any easier. But I love this league for that reason," added Flanagan, looking ahead to the challenge of Leinster at home next Sunday.
“Leinster at home, then we’ve got a massive derby against the Ospreys, then we’re on a flight to South Africa to face two of those teams.
“It’s a fantastic league, but it’s only good if you are competing.”
