Dragons RFC are delighted to announce that to recognise our successful partnership with Pledgeball, the charity will be appearing on our alernate jersey as part of a series of new sustainability pledges made by the club.
We have worked with Pledgeball over the last two seasons with our recent EPCR Challenge Cup game with Montpellier our third dedicated fixture where fans are invited to join us in protecting the places we play and love.
Pledgeball is more than just a movement, it’s a platform that enables fans as well as the club to make a real difference. The latest fixture was another opportunity for us all to come together and commit to reducing carbon emissions through simple, impactful actions.
Through Pledgeball fixtures, our supporters have pledged actions to save over one million kgCO2e – the equivalent of taking 200 cars off the road!
We are now delighted to announce that Pledgeball is featuring on the reverse of our European jerseys and, as a result of this partnership and recognising the issue with producing kit, we have made a series of pledges with our kit provision, to include:
- To continue to explore upcycling merchandise with kits at the end of the season.
- To continue to donate old kit to be of use elsewhere, something we have successfully done to teams across Africa in recent years.
- To reuse kit with our Dragons Academy teams and Dragons Community provisions, utilising both old stock or using kits for more than one season.
Dragons RFC are determined to lead the way in sustainability and driving change, following on from our recent national award for the Sustainable Spectator Travel Event of the Year for 2024.
David Watts, Commercial Executive and Sustainability Lead, said: “The potential for Dragons fans to drive positive change is enormous.
“Our relationship with Pledgeball continues to grow and our fans have really responded to the opportunity to take specific actions that help reduce our collective carbon footprint.
“The choices they are making not only reduce emissions but also create a ripple effect, inspiring friends, family, and communities to make more sustainable decisions.
“It’s wonderful to see Pledgeball featuring on our European jersey as we look to carry out our new series of pledges for kit provision and use over the coming seasons.”
Katie Cross, CEO of Pledgeball, said: “The partnership with Dragons is really exemplary - the club is striving to make changes that improve their environmental sustainability across all aspects of the club, and this is the latest example of this.
“We were delighted to be invited to feature on the kit and even more delighted with the receptivity of the club to us highlighting environmental issues around the kit.
“I very much look forward to continuing to support Dragons as they make new strides to continue to progress the award-winning measures they have taken already."
