Prop Jones closing in on comeback

12/02/2025

Loosehead prop Rhodri Jones is closing in on a playing return after his injury layoff, Head Coach Filo Tiatia has revealed.

The prop has been out of action since October because of a knee injury but the 33-year-old is now pushing for a comeback ahead of the BKT United Rugby Championship clash with Glasgow Warriors.

The return of Jones would be a boost with Argentine front row Rodrigo Martinez ruled out of Sunday afternoon’s fixture at Rodney Parade.

Martinez was forced off early against Munster last month and now faces several weeks on the sidelines for recovery.

"Rhodri is back training and it's been really great having him back in the environment from a leadership point of view," said Tiatia.

"It's been good to have his experience around our young group, he has been awesome."

Meanwhile, Dragons are set to keep wing Ashton Hewitt in Super Rygbi Cymru action as he continues his comeback.

The 30-year-old scored a try for Newport at Aberavon last weekend when making his first appearance since suffering a serious knee injury at the end of 2023.

"I went to watch him play and it was good to see Ashton run and have some moments on the ball, while it was good for him to get a try," said Tiatia.
