Having come through the Ulster Academy, Armstrong moved to Exeter University, helping them to back-to-back BUCS Super Rugby titles.
Armstrong also represented Exeter Chiefs, scoring three tries in his first year with the English club and making 18 appearances across two seasons before switching to the Men of Gwent ahead of the 2025/26 season.
