As a group of players we have been hoping for a few weeks now that Darren’s appointment was on the cards. He has been a great influence on us since he joined the region and since he has taken up the reins there has been a steady improvement in our performances.
It’s gutting for Luke to be out for tonight’s game. He puts in so much every game and he will be missed on the pitch tonight. Having said that, I know we will pull together as a team and raise our game. I’d also like to thank all of the supporters who have been showing their support for Martyn Thomas following his injury last week. Martyn’s had a really tough time coming back from his injury and coming back again will be a real test for him but with the support of his teammates and the Dragons supporters I hope he’ll be out on the pitch again soon.
Our Christchurch appeal raffle has been going well. We have some great raffle prizes, including a signed Wales shirt and signed Dragons stuff too. If you can support our efforts, I know that the kiwi boys have been bowled over by the support they have had from the rugby community in Wales. Some of the boys will be selling tickets at today’s game. They are just £2 each and it’s a great cause.
I’d like to mention the lovely pupils from Langstone Primary school I met on Tuesday when they were visiting Rodney Parade on our Second Half project. They were all very well behaved (although Dan Lydiate looked a bit intimidated when they all mobbed him for autographs!)
The boys had a week off last week (Our first since November) and a group of us ventured out to Portugal for a golfing trip. It was a great chance to bond as a team – and it’s surprising how there is always more you can learn about your teammates. Will Harries won an arm-wrestling competition (which he put down to his Northampton pre-season back in 2008) and on winning the competition, let loose with some abysmal dance celebrations. If he scores today – keep an eye out and you may just catch a glimpse of the now-fabled horrendous Harries moves…
