Rhodri Williams wants Dragons to produce both consistent and clinical displays to ensure they return to winning ways in the Guinness PRO14.
Dean Ryan’s men will aim to return to league action later this month – after the fixture with Connacht and the upcoming game with Glasgow Warriors was postponed.
Reflecting on league games so far this campaign, Williams refuses to dwell on the difficulty of the fixtures against the undefeated Irish title-contenders in Leinster, Ulster and Munster in quick succession.
Instead the 27-year-old is keen to keep the focus on Dragons as the region looks to secure more PRO14 victories.
“We’ve got look at ourselves first. Let’s not get bogged down with the teams we’ve played,” said the Swansea-born scrum half.
“We have our core elements in our game and we have to get them right. Obviously we matched the physicality of Munster recently, but other things dropped off and there are areas we need to work on.
“Consistency is key. We shine a light on one thing and it picks up and there is an improvement, but then something else drops off.
“We need to have that consistency across the board in all our key elements, that is how we will get back to winning games of rugby.”
Reflecting on the recent 28-16 defeat to Munster, Williams admits Dragons must take advantage of key moments in the game.
“The coaches asked for a reaction in terms of physicality after the game against Ulster - I think we brought that,” he said.
“But we also didn’t take our chances. Playing against a quality side like Munster you only get limited opportunities in their 22 and when you do have them you need to nail them.
“Just before half-time was a big turning point for us. We kept them out and it kept us in the game. We were confident coming out after the break and now it is about being clinical.
“It was always going to be difficult in those conditions with our attack; yet we had chances and need to take them.”
