Dragons RFC-full back Huw Anderson was delighted to mark his long-awaited Wales Under-20s debut with a try and Six Nations success over Scotland Under-20s.
Dragons Academy hot prospect Anderson was an unused tourist when Wales Under-20s visited South Africa for the U20 World Rugby Championship in the summer.
But with the experience and learnings of that World Championship tour fully taken on board, Anderson was given his debut for Wales in the six try 37-29 victory over Scotland at Colwyn Bay.
“It feels amazing. It is what I have been waiting for since that tour,” admitted Anderson.
“I was unfortunate not to get my chance in South Africa, but I have come back, worked hard, and looked to push my chances.
“To finally get that opportunity and make a bit of an impact was special."
Reflecting on the game, Anderson added: “At half-time we spoke about how tough it was going to be, especially against the wind, so the message was stay in the fight and work hard.
“We still gave too many easy ins in the second half, but we kept at it and took opportunities.
“We felt the sharper team in general, but we need to work on discipline and the easy stuff.
“Our transition game is our strongest point. We have fast and strong players, and we just need to identify that space a bit more.”
Anderson will now hope to retain his place as Wales make the trip to Bath to face England Under-20s on Friday evening.
“We know England are going to be a tough challenge, but we have a full week to prep and hopefully we can fly into it,” he smiled.
