Ewan Rosser praised a young Dragons Development side for expressing themselves and playing with bravery as they raced to an emphatic 73-21 success over Scarlets Development at Rodney Parade.
Rosser grabbed two first half scores to push his senior call-up hopes ahead of the return of the BKT United Rugby Championship later this month.
David Richards and Lloyd Lewis – both guesting from Newport RFC – grabbed braces alongside Evan Minto and Harry Rees-Weldon. Sam Scarfe also got a first half try.
“We spoke all week about expressing ourselves and being brave really and the score line shows that we did that,” he said.
“We’ve got a lot of players who want to play that way and the whole club want to play that way, so it was nice to show that.
“It’s always nice to score,” he added. “I haven’t had one this year yet and I was hoping to get one today so happy days.
“I did have a word with the boys saying: ‘If you make a break, look for me’ because I wanted a third, but it didn’t come.”
Dragons fielded a mix of youth, returning seniors and players guesting from Super Rygbi Cymru and Rosser believes the game was a positive for all involved.
“We could have a month without playing, but it was good and a mix of senior boys, academy guys and Super Rygbi Cymru boys.
“I thought all the SRC boys did well like Dai Richards, Joel Mahoney, Lloyd Lewis, they were all class today which shows how important it is to have them coming in to help out and it was an opportunity for everyone.
“It’s just minutes now, probably a better standard than the SRC so it’s just building blocks towards the URC.
“It was a big score line, but we don’t want to get carried away with ourselves.
“It was a great start, but we just want to build on that one going into next week and keep the momentum going.”
