Ebbw Vale continued their superb start to the season on Saturday as they dismantled Cardiff RFC, 60 points to 20, at the Ciner Glass Community Stadium.
Looking to maintain their perfect start and their hold on the Super Rygbi Cymru shield, the Steelers put in a superb display, scoring nine tries, including a hattrick for replacement hooker Ieuan Morris.
Centre Ethan Phillips, captain Joe Franchi and fullback Morgan Richards all scored in the first half along with a penalty try from a driving maul, while a further nine points from fly-half Dorian Jones gave Ebbw a 31-15 half-time lead.
In the final half hour, Morris scored his first and second tries before Ewan Bowden and Sion Parry grabbed scores with Ebbw rounding off the win with the replacement hookers’ hattrick.
The win ensured that Ebbw are top of the table having secured a maximum 18 points from 18 so far this season.
Elsewhere, Newport were also at home to Swansea with both sides looking for their first win of the season.
In an entertaining game with 13 tries scored, Swansea won through a late penalty, securing a 42-40 win at the Newport Stadium.
Newport had led 28-17 at half-time, thanks to an early try from Dragons’ own Dai Richards, before tries from Lucas Welch and a brace from hooker Wade Langley secured the bonus point.
In the second half, Morgan Williams and Dafydd Buckland scored to give the Gwent side a 40-39 lead with 10 minutes remaining before All Whites fly-half Josh Phillips gave the away side the win off the tee.
Pontypool also fell to back-to-back defeats, losing 24-12 at Carmarthen Quins.
Following a disappointing first forty, Pooler trailed 24-0 at the break but showed some real grit in the second half to fight back with a brace of tries from debutant full-back Carrick McDonough.
The game saw the return to Super Rygbi Cymru action for Wales U20s and Dragons Academy pair Harri Ford and Evan Minto who joined Ryan Jones, Morgan Lloyd and George Tuckley in the 23.
Next up, all three sides have their return fixtures of this double-header fortnight as Newport travel to Swansea on Thursday night, meanwhile Ebbw are also on the road to Cardiff and Pontypool host Carmarthen.
