Player of the match and try scorer Oli Burrows has called on Dragons to keep building on momentum after the convincing derby day victory over Scarlets on home soil.
Burrows continued his rich vein of form - that has seen him score three tries in his last three games - as the Men of Gwen swept past Scarlets 28-5 in the BKT United Rugby Championship.
The victory made it three successive home successes – for the first time since January 2024.
And Burrows admits the confidence and momentum in the squad now is something they are keen to building on as attention now switches to Europe.
“Derby win – can’t really ask for much more at the start of the New Year,” he smiled.
“I think we’ve carried on some momentum from before Christmas and we are starting to turn Rodney Parade into a bit of a fortress.
“Getting the monkey off our backs has been big. Losing is a habit as much as winning is a habit.
“We had the tight results against the Sharks and the Ospreys where we could have closed them out. But you grind out some wins and then suddenly you fall the right side of 50:50s.
“Momentum and taking confidence from each win has been huge.
“The beauty of this block, while it’s hard on the body with ten games in a row, is you can back up performance after performance. We want to build good on good.”
Burrows has found himself a starter in recent weeks with Elliot Dee, Brodie Coghlan and James Benjamin all ruled out.
The 23-year-old has grabbed the opportunity with both hands – but insists that team performances are what drives him.
“Competition is healthy and we’ve some brilliant hookers at the club, just whenever I get the opportunity I want put my best foot forward and give a good account of myself,” he said.
“I will probably look back on my performance later, but it is more about the result for me.
“Being a Neath boy, you grow up having that edge against the West Walian teams, so it is pleasing to get the result.
“It means a huge amount to the fans. It was brilliant to have a full house here.
“The challenge now is backing up these good away performances with away displays,” he added.
“We were close against Cardiff, and the challenge now is how we go up a level and kick on away from here.”
