Aneurin Owen has praised milestone men Brodie Coughlan and Angus O’Brien for hitting major landmarks as Dragons lost out to FidelitySecureDrive Lions on Saturday afternoon.
Playmaker O’Brien hit 500 points for the Men of Gwent – becoming only the fourth player to achieve the feat – while Coghlan hit a half century of appearances.
“Angus is the heartbeat of this team, and he’s been brilliant these last couple of seasons and he really drives this team on,” said Owen. “I love playing with him and I love his energy and competitiveness.
“That’s a little milestone and he deserves it because he fronts up every single week.”
I also want to congratulate Brodie on his 50th, he deserves it and he’s been hardworking in the group and congratulations to him.
“We started young together and we grew up together playing for Newport High School Old Boys, so he massively deserves it and he earned the Welsh cap in the Autumn and just all the work he’s put in, he’s a great player and every game, he just gets better.”
After the game, Owen who scored two tries, said was proud of the performance Dragons put in as they now turn their attention to the EPCR Challenge cup and the fixture with Stade Francais Paris on Sunday.
"I’m really proud of the grit and desire the boys showed out here in South Africa, a couple of good tries but we’re obviously disappointed that we weren’t on the better side of the result,” he added.
“When we get it right, we look good and we can close our game plan on any team, it’s just key moments in games where we need to stay switched on and trust the process, if we keep doing that, we’ll get better outcomes.
“We’re going in the right direction, it’s just a bit frustrating but the work rate from the team is there.
“Time together with coaches and players has been class, we’re feeling like we’re growing every week and getting better but at the same time.
“We just need to learn quicker, there's been a lot of games over the last few months where we could’ve won, and should’ve got on the right side of results.”
