Back row Thomas Young wants Dragons to build on the manner of the performance in Cape Town against DHL Stormer – as they bid to turn a series of narrow defeats into victories.
The Men of Gwent were edged out 29-21 at DHL Stadium to follow recent narrow defeats on the road to Ospreys and Munster in the BKT United Rugby Championship.
Filo Tiatia’s men now travel to Johannesburg to face Fidelity SecureDrive Lions this Saturday (March 28) and Young is eager to build on the positives from the Stormers game and keep moving forward.
“It was a close game. We are happy but also disappointed we haven’t come away with anything,” he said.
“As a group we showed a lot of fight, which we had spoken about in the week, and as a group it shows we are improving. The bounce of the ball here and there and it could have been a different story.
“We put them under pressure when we had the ball, so it was about retaining it in the second half. We also spoke about discipline at half-time too,” he added.
“We gave them a couple of ins at the start of the second half, which kept the scoreboard ticking over and made it hard for us.
“As a group we have got to just keep understanding those little moments and that is something we will look at going forward.”
Young grabbed his first try for the club after coming on a replacement for Harry Beddall. But he is keen to focus on the team performance as Dragons look to kick on.
“It’s always nice to score - I’ve had a few disallowed so it is good to get over and get one on the board – but it’s all about the team and building,” he said.
“We want to keep growing. We are working hard and pushing each other, there are positives from the Stormers game.
“But we know we need start turning those close games into wins, so we’ll look forward to the Lions.”
