Dragons v Glasgow Warriors Match Report

Newport Gwent Dragons came close to taking a home win against Glasgow Warriors, but after a comeback to take the lead they just missed out in front of the home crowd.

The Men of Gwent started well and were awarded with a penalty soon after kick off. Unfortunately for the Welsh Region though, they were denied as fly-half Nick Macleod's kick went a little wide of the uprights. Soon after this Glasgow were awarded their own kickable penalty as Scottish International Finn Russell made no mistake and slotted his kick straight over the posts.

Both sides attempted to battle over the try line but it was Glasgow Warriors who managed to kick another three points through the boot of Russell once again.

They then went on to add the first try to the scoreboard through a driving maul with Corey Flynn crossing the whitewash, which Russell then converted.

Just after the half an hour marker, referee Andrew Brace penalised Glasgow flanker Fraser Brown, for a no-arms tackle which meant that he saw yellow. This saw Nick Macleod slot a penalty over the posts seeing the Dragons add their first three points to the score board. However before the first half was over Russell made it 16-3.

Half Time: Newport Gwent Dragons 3 – Glasgow Warriors 16

The second half began very well for the Dragons, showing their dominance from the referee’s whistle. Their try eventually came from loose head prop Sam Hobbs, thanks to a penalty from a high tackle. Fly-half Macleod slotted another kick through the posts to add the conversion to put them within a point of the opposition. The Dragons weren’t finished there as centre Jack Dixon went over in the corner with Macleod adding the conversion, once again. This saw the Dragons take the lead for the first time that evening 17-16

However this lead didn't last long as Glasgow prop Alex Allan found space in the Dragons defence which saw him dart over under the sticks. With Russell adding the conversion send Glasgow Warriors into the lead.

The International then went six from six, before the final whistle had blown, with a late penalty to seal the win for the Scottish side.

Full-Time: Newport Gwent Dragons 17 – Glasgow Warriors 26
