The Women’s U20s Six Nations Summer Series will be hosted at the home of Dragons RFC - the Centre of Sporting Excellence, Ystrad Mynach, in Caerphilly - across a week in July.
The Women’s U20s tournament will be played between the Six Nations across three match days – Saturday, July 5, Friday, July 11 and Thursday, July 17.
The WU20s 6N Summer Series will kick-off a summer of rugby that includes a Wales Women’s senior side tour to face Australia and the showpiece event of the biggest Women’s Rugby World Cup in August and September in England.
The Wales WU20s squad will be looking to emulate Wales’ Maisie Davies and Alaw Pyrs, who both played in last season’s Summer Series, and made their first starts in the recent senior Six Nations campaign.
Wales, the host nation for the tournament in its second season, will play Ireland, Scotland and Italy on Welsh soil.
The WU20s Summer Series is designed as a key development step to underpin the growth of the women’s game and to give the best young talent across each nation as chance to compete at the highest level.
The inaugural Summer Series was played in Italy last season and saw more than a dozen players across the nations making the step to playing in the 2025 Guinness Women’s Six Nations.
The bulk of every nation’s squad will be made up of Under-20’s players with a dispensation rule to allow five players Under-23 to be named in each squad.
The WRU’s Head of Women’s Rugby, Belinda Moore said: “The Welsh Rugby Union recognises the growth of the women’s game is moving at a real pace and welcome the prospect of hosting such a key tournament to develop players.
“The Summer Series is a key development platform and part of the player pathway and aligns with the work we have seen done by the Celtic Challenge and allows players to see a real route to play at the highest level.”
Wales WU20s head coach, Liza Burgess said: “The Summer Series proved invaluable and a massive learning experience for all the players last season. Every player wants the chance to play at the highest level and test yourself against other nations and the WU20s Six Nations is perfect for that.
“We saw the likes of prop Maisie Davies and Alaw Pyrs play out in Italy and they used it as a launchpad to make their senior Wales debuts and feature in WXV in South Africa and the recent Guinness Women’s Six Nations.
“We have seen players who have gone onto play Celtic Challenge rugby and there is no doubt more of the current crop of young players in our squad will go on and do the same.”
All matches in the Women’s 2025 Summer Series will be streamed live on the Six Nations Under-20s YouTube channel.
