Dragons v Ospreys Match Report

After a tight end to the match the Newport Gwent Dragons were only able to take away a losing bonus point against Ospreys in their last home match of the Guinness PRO12.

With Dragons number 8 Taulupe Faletau making potentially his last home game of the season as Captain, the stakes were high for the squad and the supporters.

It was the opposition who put the first set of points on the scoreboard as Jeff Hassler crossed over in the left hand corner however Wales fly-half Dan Biggar failed to convert the try.

Just 5 minutes later the Dragons added their own try with great teamwork from Carl Meyer, who offloaded to centre Tyler Morgan only for him to Hallam Amos over in the corner. Similarly, to the Ospreys Dragons fly-half Dorian Jones also missed the conversion making the scores 5-5 after 10 minutes.

But the high tempo match saw the Ospreys take the lead once again on the 20-minute marker. The try came from scrum-half Rhys Webb and Biggar made no mistake with this conversion. However, Dragons lock Rynard Landman saw yellow as referee John Lacey got fed up of the consistent home infringements.

The sin binning didn’t deter the Men of Gwent as they made the most of a penalty when fullback Meyer made it 12-8 with a wonderful kick from the half way line.

The Ospreys third try came on the strike of half-time as a long range pass out wide saw fullback Dan Evans cross the whitewash, and with Biggar’s conversion the West Walians sat in front 19-8.

Half Time: Dragons 8 – Ospreys 19

Similarly, to last weekend it was Amos who opened the scoring of the second half with his second try of the evening, but the tricky conversion was missed seeing the scores at 19-13.

The Ospreys ran in their fourth try not long after Amos’ try. Their bonus point try was claimed by Sam Underhill and Biggar’s conversion made it 26-13.

The remainder of the match saw the Dragons attack the Ospreys try line and finally it paid off after Carl Meyer crossed to make the final scores 26-20.

Full Time: Dragons 20 – Ospreys 26
