James Benjamin is one of the region’s home-grown talents having progressed through the Dragons Academy and age grade sides. The Newport born forward quickly turned heads during his time in the Premiership with Cross Keys and Bedwas and was called into the Wales Under-20s squad before making his international debut during a win over France in October 2013.

He made his senior debut for Dragons at flanker against London Wasps at Rodney Parade in 2013 and made his 50th appearance in April 2018 at the Principality Stadium against Scarlets.

The Dragons academy graduate has also impressed on the Sevens stage and was part of the Welsh squad for the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Benjamin operted at back row and also at centre for his home region, before making the transition to hooker ahead of the 2021/2022 season. After 16 appearances for the region in 2023/24, Benjamin is fast-approaching a century for the club having played 91 times and scored eight tries before the start of the 2024/25 season.
